Dr hab. Anna Woźnica
A graduate of the Academy of Music in Łódź and the University of Silesia in Katowice, she has been a member of the Faculty of Theology at the University of Silesia in Katowice since 2011. In 2015, she earned a doctorate in theology in dogmatic theology based on her dissertation "Mary in the Theology of Elizabeth A. Johnson." From 2017 to 2019, she implemented a project for the National Science Center, which resulted in the publication of the monograph "Toward an Inclusive Anthropology: Profound Intellectual Disability and Humanity" in 2019. In 2020, she obtained her habilitation. She is the author of articles in Polish and international scientific journals, and has also published in "Więź" and "W drodze." She has also served as a reviewer for several Polish scientific periodicals.

SUMMARY:
Aim: To move beyond the simplistic equation of "openness to life" with having many children by re-examining the concept through the lens of Marian dogmas and biblical narratives.
Methods: A hermeneutical analysis of key Magisterial documents (Gaudium et spes, Humanae vitae, Evangelium vitae, Catechism) and a subsequent re-reading of biblical Marian pericopes (the Annunciation, Visitation, Finding in the Temple).
Results: The Virgin Mary is presented as the paradigm of authentic openness to life, which encompasses not only the courageous decision to conceive but also the demanding task of upbringing and a spiritual attitude of total entrustment to God’s will ("virginity" in its spiritual sense).
Conclusion: Openness to life is primarily about discerning and fulfilling God’s plan, which can manifest both in generous procreation and in responsible parenthood that, for serious reasons, limits the number of children to ensure their proper formation.
Originality: The article offers a novel synthesis by using the figure of Mary—the Ever-Virgin Mother of only one Son—as a theological model to challenge the assumption that Catholic "openness to life" necessarily implies a large family.
Abstract: The article revisits the Catholic Church's teaching on openness to life in marriage, moving beyond the simplistic equation of this concept with having a large number of children. Through a hermeneutical analysis of key Magisterial documents (Gaudium et spes, Humanae vitae, Evangelium vitae, Catechism of the Catholic Church) and a subsequent re-reading of biblical Marian pericopes (the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Finding in the Temple, and the episode of Jesus' family seeking him), the author presents the Virgin Mary as a model for accepting life. This model encompasses not only the courageous decision to conceive a child but also the profound, often demanding, task of upbringing and the spiritual attitude of total entrustment to God's will ("virginity" in its spiritual sense). The study concludes that openness to life is primarily about discerning and fulfilling God's plan, which can manifest both in generous procreation and in responsible parenthood that, for serious reasons, limits the number of children to ensure their proper formation. Mary, the Ever-Virgin Mother of only one Son, is presented as a paradigm of this authentic, God-centered openness.

Cel: Wyjście poza uproszczone utożsamianie „otwartości na życie” z wielodzietnością poprzez ponowne przeanalizowanie tego pojęcia w świetle dogmatów maryjnych i narracji biblijnych.
Metody: Analiza hermeneutyczna kluczowych dokumentów Magisterium (Gaudium et spes, Humanae vitae, Evangelium vitae, Katechizm) oraz późniejsza ponowna lektura biblijnych perykop maryjnych (Zwiastowanie, Nawiedzenie, Znalezienie w świątyni).
Rezultaty: Maryja Panna została przedstawiona jako paradygmat autentycznej otwartości na życie, która obejmuje nie tylko odważną decyzję o poczęciu, ale także wymagający trud wychowania i duchową postawę całkowitego zawierzenia woli Bożej („dziewictwo” w sensie duchowym).
Wnioski: Otwartość na życie to przede wszystkim rozeznawanie i wypełnianie zamysłu Bożego, który może przejawiać się zarówno w hojnym rodzicielstwie, jak i w odpowiedzialnym rodzicielstwie, które z poważnych powodów ogranicza liczbę dzieci, aby zapewnić im właściwe wychowanie.
Oryginalność: Artykuł oferuje nowatorską syntezę, wykorzystując postać Maryi – Matki jedynego Syna, która zawsze jest Dziewicą – jako model teologiczny, podważający założenie, że katolicka „otwartość na życie” koniecznie oznacza liczną rodzinę.
Streszczenie: Artykuł powraca do nauczania Kościoła katolickiego na temat otwartości na życie w małżeństwie, wykraczając poza uproszczone utożsamianie tej koncepcji z posiadaniem licznego potomstwa. Poprzez hermeneutyczną analizę kluczowych dokumentów Magisterium (Gaudium et spes, Humanae vitae, Evangelium vitae, Katechizm Kościoła Katolickiego) oraz późniejszą ponowną lekturę biblijnych perykop maryjnych (Zwiastowanie, Nawiedzenie, Znalezienie w Świątyni oraz epizod poszukiwania Jezusa przez rodzinę), autor przedstawia Maryję Pannę jako wzór akceptacji życia. Maryja, Matka jedynego Syna, będąca zawsze Dziewicą, jest przedstawiona jako wzór tej autentycznej, skoncentrowanej na Bogu otwartości.
